I know my online shop isn’t exactly the busiest on the internet, but last night I had 19 failed payments that are clearly the work of a ‘carding attack’ – if you’re a online business owner who has been lucky enough to avoid this in the past, what happens is that some automated bot uses a website to test card details on small items to check the card and confirm it is active. Result for me is 19 failed payments, which would have been more if I’d not checked my emails at 2am this morning.
Anyway, the result of these scumbag fraudsters is, I’ve just had to add one of those annoying reCAPTCHA boxes to the checkout process. You know the ones. ‘Tick all the boxes that contain crosswalks, fire hydrants, bicycles…’ that sort of thing. Incredibly annoying, frustrating for customers and website owners, but a necessary evil.
So, an apology if you find this annoying. I do too, and I haven’t added it without looking for other alternatives. Hopefully it can come off in the future, but for now it’s going to have to stay. Sorry.
